When you click on the expand icon, all available objects are loaded by default if their number does not exceed 5000. How to change the fetch size of database objects You can also change all the same settings in global preferences in the User Interface -> Navigator section. Click on it to open and edit the corresponding settings. Please note that each action icon is also a button. For example, when they are enabled you can easily find cloud databases in your list. These icons are displayed on the right side of the view and allow you to navigate your connections better. They make it easy to recognize connections through a tunnel, connections to cloud databases, as well as connections set to read-only mode. We have three types of action icons in the DBeaver Navigation Tree. Please be aware that displaying the statictic info may affect performance. This feature can be useful when your database has many tables, and you want to understand which one contains a large amount of data quickly. For most databases, our application allows you to display the sizes of tables. You can change any of the descriptions in the Properties tab of the Data Editor. For example, it is sometimes useful to add descriptions to the columns if there are a lot of them in a table and they have non-obvious names. Choose this option if you have a large number of objects in your database that have similar names. This issue is solved by displaying the host next to the connection’s name. ![]() The easiest way to avoid this problem is to rename one of them. Sometimes you may confuse connections with the same name. Let’s take a look at all of the options you can change. Right-click on any of your connections and go to Connection View. You can use the context menu of the Database Navigator to change tree display options. But not everyone knows that the navigation tree can be customized based on personal preferences and needs. ![]() This navigator is one of the main parts of DBeaver, which displays all your database connections, and all our application users need it for their work. But watching people build a website or write a program or navigate the BASH always captivates me.Database Navigator is the main view to work with the structure and content of databases. Instead of killing the bad guys on my PS4, you could watch me kill bad SQL or create REST Services. We built them for SQLcl, but they’re also available in SQL Developer and SQL Developer Web! Try INFO+ if you want the column stats vs comments. Use the DDL command, and use the INFO command. I have two ways to get this information, faster than you can get it by clicking around in the tree. It’s also the easiest way to explore the contents of your database.īut what if you don’t need to explore? What if you simply want the DDL for an object, or maybe a list of indexes or foreign keys? There’s nothing wrong with the Connection Tree. You don’t have to Test your connection first, you can just ‘Save’ it, if you’re confident □ 5. We don’t ‘nuke’ the existing connection, we’l instead create a new one with the new name, and the original one remains. Just edit an existing connection, give it a new name. You want to add a second connection to the same database. I’ve seen people do this so many times…you have a connection to one database. You can nest as many levels as you want, and you can do this on the DBA connection panel, too! 4. The easiest way to do is this is to add them to a folder, or even subfolder. The first is, give your connections GOOD names. I was using the mouse to execute the script, but F5 is faster. Now, sometimes you’ll want that running log. I use this all the time, and so does Franck!Īs you’re testing a snippet of code, you’re going to be making changes and running it, over and over again. Avoid the ‘Clear’ button, just use Clear Screen If you don’t use statement delimiters – the semicolon – you will need to highlight your code first. ![]() I was watching my co-worker, write her statement, then circle back, select the text, then use the ‘Execute’ button on the toolbar.Īnd if you’re using statement delimiters, or if you only have a single statement in your worksheet, it’s completely unecessary. What are the very, very basics of the UI/UX in SQL Developer? End of day, Franck just pushed me to ‘get busy blogging, or get busy dying.’ 1. I ALSO wanted to get down to the lowest possible level of this concept. This post will be over in just 2 more minutes □ ![]() You can watch it now of course, but it’s about 17 minutes long. This feeling, or reaction was the driving force behind my “ SQL Developer, You’re Doing it Wrong” video. It bothers me to watch people do stuff less efficiently than they could be. watching a co-worker use SQL Developer over Zoom. This post was inspired by two simple events –
